Knots used to hold people need training. Learn life-safety knots from a qualified instructor, and have a partner check every one before it is loaded.
Use it for
- A bowline that will be loaded and unloaded repeatedly.
- Stiff or slippery rope, where a plain bowline can loosen.
Watch out
- Tie the overhand snugly against the bowline, round the leg of the eye, not round the standing part.
Untying
Undo the overhand first, then break the back of the bowline.
