The Dreamspell (also "13-Moon" / "Galactic Maya") was created by José & Lloydine Argüelles in 1987–1990. It is a contemporary system, not the Classic Maya calendar, and its 260-day count is not the one kept by Maya daykeeping communities — it holds its count across 29 February, so it drifts from the traditional Tzolk'in. Dreamspell vs. the traditional Tzolk'in

For the date above:

  • The count. The traditional Tzolk'in is a continuous 260-day cycle carried unbroken by daykeepers. The Dreamspell fixes Kin values to Gregorian dates and gives 29 February no Kin, so the two counts sit a fixed number of days apart and that gap is baked in by the anchor choice.
  • The names. Dreamspell renames the 20 signs to English "solar seals" (Dragon, Wind, Night, Seed…) and adds 13 "galactic tones," four colour families, the wavespell and the Oracle — none of which appear in Maya sources.
  • The year. The Dreamspell year is 13 months of 28 days plus one "Day Out of Time" (25 July) — unrelated to the 365-day Haab'.
  • Reception. Maya organizations and daykeepers have publicly distinguished their calendar from the Dreamspell.
