Infographic

A visual representation of data or information — using charts, icons, and diagrams — designed for quick, clear understanding.

In practice

An infographic presents data or information visually, combining charts, icons, diagrams and short text so the main point is understood quickly. It must stay honest: a bar chart that does not start at zero, or icons scaled so their area exaggerates differences, can mislead even when the numbers are correct. A poster showing how a city's water travels from reservoir to tap is a typical infographic.

Often confused with data visualization

Data visualization usually means charts built directly from data; an infographic combines such charts with illustration, icons and text to tell one story.
