Point

The minimal, indivisible visual unit — the origin from which line, plane, and spatial relationships extend.

In practice

A point is the smallest visual unit, a mark with position but almost no size. Lines, planes and patterns can all be read as points extended or repeated. Alone, a point creates strong focus because the eye goes straight to it: a single red dot on a white book cover holds the whole page. Many points together form textures, halftone images, or a path the eye follows.

Try this

Place one dot on a blank sheet at the center, in a corner and near an edge, and note how the page's feeling changes.
