Gratitude
A positive feeling toward a specific person or circumstance recognized as having given something of value.
How it shows up
Gratitude appears when someone has done something for us, or when circumstances turn out kindly: a neighbor's help, a teacher's patience, a safe journey home. It often brings warmth and an urge to thank or give back. Some studies link a habit of noticing gratitude with greater well-being, though the size of that effect varies across studies. Its recognition of something given is what sets it apart from simple pleasure.
How it differs from indebtedness
Indebtedness feels like owing something back; gratitude is warmth toward what was given, without the sense of a bill to pay.
Notice
Notice who or what you feel quietly thankful toward today, and whether they know.
Where it is felt
Felt most in the chest, face and whole body.
