Scenario

A described situation used in design research to test or explain how a person moves through a product or interface.

In practice

A scenario is a short, concrete story about a particular person trying to do something with a product, used to test or explain a design. It names the person's goal, situation and steps: a commuter with one free hand who needs to buy a train ticket on her phone in under a minute. Walking a design through such a scenario quickly reveals missing steps and awkward moments.

Often confused with Storyboard

A scenario is the written story of a person's situation and goal; a storyboard shows that story or interaction as a sequence of pictures.
